The Love Faith and Hope Foundation which is based in the slums of Korogocho, Nairobi County, was established based on God’s principles and teachings. Its founders believe that Korogocho can emerge as a bright spot for many in Kenya and Africa on different issues. It is a neighborhood that has different talents, which, if properly nurtured, can help in generating good income to eradicate poverty.
Chief Operations Officer, Alex Khatiri says the neighborhood can be the source of good education, clean water and good housing. Says Alex: “In this neighborhood, everyone has shown a talent he or she can develop in order to use it to earn an income.” He points out that the area can emerge safe without being prone to acts of terror or hooliganism associated with idle mind and lack of guidance.
This organization was established in 2017 to help the poor, widows and orphans. The program helps with food and pays for children’s school fees in Primary and Secondary schools. The organization was founded by philanthropist Harrie Reinders, a Netherland citizen who is also the founder of Collection Fund Christ Economy, which similarly helps the needy and most vulnerable. However, Alex collaborated with Samuel ‘Coshsam’ Ouma. In order to carry out its duties, this organization gets help from friends.
“To fulfill our dream, we need sponsors to help us carry out our duties to provide food and other necessities to poor families. There are many children in the neighborhood who go through many challenges of not having enough resources.
FRIENDS
Since this organization was established through help from friends, it provides food to poor families and nearby schools. “We have also succeeded in sponsoring several children by paying fees at Primary and Secondary schools,” says Ouma.
The leaders of this organization are: program manager, Alex Inganga, his assistant, Chris Chrispus Baraza, finance manager Clinton Ochieng, IT manager and chief operations manager Alex Khatiri, secretary and girls advisor Beatrice Akinyi and communications officer, Jeremiah Khayo.
Says Ouma:”We have served almost 10,000 families since we started distributing food. On the school fees part, we have been able to support primary, high school and even university students who have not been able to pay their school fees. We’ve not been able to pay for all needy students but by God’s Grace have supported almost 500 students.”
LACK OF FUNDS
Due to lack of funds, we have stopped some of our previous programs under Tujitegemee project. They include training youth to empower them with entrepreneurship skills leading to boosting their economic development.
Under the Tujitegemee project, the organisation was training youth in many things, among them entrepreneurship, to help develop business plans for the ideas they have and supporting them to start projects. Setting up income generating projects like green housing, chicken(layers and broilers) breeding and car wash among others.
