NCBA Football team Downs Former Champion Consolidated Bank in Financial Institutions Games

 THE National Commercial Bank of Africa (NCBA) men’s football team defeated Consolidated Bank 2-0 in 39th edition of the Financial Institutions Games held at the Kenya School of Monetary Studies (KSMS) grounds in Nairobi, Sunday, September 7, 2025. Eco Bank football team drew 1-1 with Caritas. The games are organised annually by the Kenya Banks Association (KBA).

Consolidated Bank team coached by Kennedy Okanda’s, who have won the title three times, are already out of the fight for this year’s championship. Coach Patrick Orwako’s NCBA showed good game despite facing a tough test and collected three important points. Those teams are in Group C which is a deadly group that includes the top teams in the tournament.

NCBA achieved the victory through the efforts of Benson Onyango and Enock Kisengi who scored once each. “I congratulate my players for the victory because it was not easy match,” said the NCBA coach. He added that they are determined to fight hard in the remaining matches. The Consolidated coach said they need to sign new blood to face their opponents in next year’s competition.  ECO Bank took the lead through Marita Collins before Christopher Otieno equalised for Caritas. Kenya Bankers Sacco coach Hosea Waga said they must beat UBA Bank in their third match to be in a good position to advance in the group.  “Our 1-0 win over Kingdom Bank on Saturday was a huge boost for us,” he said. He advised his players not to lose hope when they face their opponents. Co-operative Bank also made progress as they beat Gulf Bank 2-0 through goals from Shawn Gideon and Gideon Amollo.

In women’s volleyball results, Equity Bank coached by Jack Miduma collected nine points as they won three matches,  2-0 sets each over Central Bank of Kenya (CBK),  NCBA and KB Sacco. They scored 25-19, 25-14 against CBK, beat NCBA 25-08, 25-15, alson gunned KB  Sacco  12-25, 09-25.  “We are doing well this year as usual and I congratulate my players for good job,” said the Equity coach. He added that they will continue that fighting hard to make sure they qualify for the finals where they can face tough competition. In other results, Postbank defeated Co-operative Bank  and NCBA 2-0 sets each. In the men’s matches, Equity Bank beat National Bank of Kenya (NBK) 2-0 and Stanbic won 2-0 sets over I&M.
